45. Rain Swimmers - Leslie

  • FADE IN:

  • EXT. CITY STREETS - NIGHT

  • AMBER skips from puddle to puddle as rain pounds on her head. Street lamp light gives the puddles a glossy, orange surface.

  • MARTY runs behind her kicking the puddles and watching fallen water join the rain for a brief moment.

  • Amber trips to a stop, pointing wordlessly at the street in front of her.

  • It seems to stretch to stretch on forever.

  • An inky fluid is rushing down the street, far away from them, but gaining ground, like flood waters fighting to find an escape.

  • They turn, trying to run, but can't seem to move fast enough.

  • Amber jumps, swan-diving into one of the puddles and sinks beneath the surface as the rain lifts the water above the tops of cars within an instant.

  • Marty swims next to her, and they gain speed.

  • Amber glances back and sees that the darkness is absorbing all the rain water.

  • Marty treads water in terror as it begins to drain towards the darkness.

  • Amber stands, in the now ankle-deep water and runs.

  • Susan is on a cell-phone call. She smiles at Melissa, who walks by with two cups of coffee.

  • Marty turns around and inhales sharply, darkness getting sucked into his lungs. He cocks his head as he realizes what he's done.

  • He kneels and begins drinking the darkness as it begins to lap around it.

  • Amber sees what he is doing and joins him.

  • They drink desperately, shocked that when they look up the darkness is gone.

  • Amber stands and grabs Marty's hand.

  • He grins at her.

  • A fist of darkness plunges out of Amber's chest, and then out of Marty's.

  • They try to scream, but their voices are gone. Tendrils reaching around them until they is completely covered.

  • The darkness pours from them, traveling down the street, leaving their shells, darkened, in the middle of the road.

  • FADE TO BLACK.
