- FADE IN:
- INT. ENTU CAFE - DAY
- JONATHAN
- What happens when we reach the edge?
- JONATHAN waves his salad fork at MIKE who sits across from him at a small metal table.
- The Cafe is filled with light streaming in through two large picture windows that face a busy street.
- JDust motes and steam dance together above the cups.
- Mike fingers his turtleneck.
- MIKE
- The edge?
- JONATHAN
- Yeah, the edge of reason, of knowing...the edge of God, if She exists.
- MIKE
- I suppose you'd go crazy, or discover everything that you could know in an instant...and it would be too much...you'd either die or your mind would erase or...
- JONATHAN
- I'd like to go there...find out what it's like...it'd be worth that split second of...everything before everything went dark. To touch the face of...well, the unknown...I'd give everything.
- MIKE
- Everything?
- JONATHAN
- Yeah.
- Mike leans over the table and shoves Jonathan.
- EXT. MIDDLE OF THE AIR - NIGHT
- Jonathan is falling through the air, wind slamming into his face, he spread his arms instinctively.
- The wind rips the scream from his lips.
- Below him, the glow of the city spreads toward infinity, squares and grids marching to the dark horizon.
- The city's veins are filled with the liquid gold of constant travel, and they pulse far below him.
- He falls faster and faster, the lights below racing to meet him.
- His eyes open wide.
- JONATHAN
- I see it!
- He closes his eyes, seconds before the pavement catches his body in its crushing embrace and everything goes dark.
- FADE TO BLACK.
