125. Closed Circuit - Leslie

  • FADE IN:

  • INT. CCTV MONITORING STATION - EVENING

  • JON watches a bank of monitors that cover a whole range of human activity.

  • He watches as people walk along streets, huddle in corners to converse, fight, and make-out.

  • He slouches in his chair, watching everything closely.

  • A WOMAN walks onto one of the bottom screens and he notices right away sitting up straight.

  • He flips an array of buttons, and begins following her journey down the sidewalk.

  • She walks at comfortable pace.

  • He watches for a moment, then slowly pulls open a drawer full of delicate, colored paper.

  • Origami butterflies spill out, and he carefully replaces them at the back of the drawer.

  • He pulls a sheet of pale orange paper out, and begins folding, as he watches the woman's journey.

  • TODD (O.S.)
  • Jon!

  • Jon spins around in his chair, clutching the paper.

  • TODD stands behind him grinning.

  • TODD
  • What's up?

  • JON
  • Just her.

  • TODD
  • You're a sick puppy you know? You need to quit staring at her and just find her and give her a bag full of those butterflies. And FYI, don't mention you've been stalking her for the last 6 months. And what's with the butterflies anyway?

  • JON
  • She likes them.

  • TODD
  • How do you know that? No, wait, on second thought, I really don't want to know.

  • Jon shushes him with a wave and turns back to the monitor.

  • She is on a higher screen now and has stopped outside a store front and is chatting animatedly with the shop owner.

  • Her skirt flows around her, barely touching the sidewalk.

  • She kisses the shop owner on both cheeks, thanking him for the parcel she holds, then continues, her skirt flowing around her.

  • She walks off screen, and Jon slouches back into his chair.

  • TODD
  • Out of range?

  • Jon nods.

  • Todd shakes his head and slips away murmuring.

  • TODD
  • Every flipping night.

  • Jon places a now finished butterfly in the drawer and closes it.

  • FADE TO BLACK.
