INT. MORRIGAN CAFE - LATER AFTERNOON
MAIA sits at a small table sipping a cup of lemon chamomile tea. She wears a speckled blue blouse and a dark, flowing skirt.
A large pot of tea sits in front of her and an empty cup across from her hinting at the possibility of a visitor.
The Cafe is a a comfortable place, with just a few tables placed around the small space. Its walls are covered in neo-art deco posters and several comfortably worn couches hug the walls.
Waist-high bookshelves are scattered randomly between the tables.
The room is lit with a few, well placed lamps.
Small candles flicker on the tables.
MAIA watches the steam leak out of her cup and absently flicks her finger back and forth through the candle flame.
She runs a finger through her short spiky hair. Small dark plugs stretch her ears and several rings hair from her upper ear.
The door of the cafe opens and a soft bell rings, announcing the arrival of a patron.
EMMALEE enters and walks to Maia’s table and sits across from her. She wears a green graphic t-shirt and ripped boot-cut jeans. Long tear-drop earrings twist inches above her shoulders.
EMMALEE
Welcome to the carnival.
Welcome to the carnival.
MAIA
Where odd desires intermingle with a twisting fear of the unknown.

EMMALEE
Don’t panic, all will soon be obscured.
Don’t panic, all will soon be obscured.
The room grows dark and still.
MAIA
Do you fear that which is other?
Do you fear that which is other?
EMMALEE
I fear no shadow.
I fear no shadow.
Maia stands and dark grey wings explode from her shoulders hovering dangerously above the counter.
Stray feathers spiral to the floor.
MAIA
Welcome back sister.
Welcome back sister.
Emmalee stands extending her own set of wings, sinuous and green and lighting fast, like those of a dragonfly.
EMMALEE
Ready?
Ready?
MAIA
Always.
Always.
The cafe lightens.
Both return to their seats.
EMMALEE
Oh well, that was fun.
Oh well, that was fun.
MAIA
It’s been so long since we’ve actually been able to do anything useful.

EMMALEE
Cursed humans and their silly little box...ruined everything.
Cursed humans and their silly little box...ruined everything.
MAIA
Doesn’t hurt to get some practice every now and then
...you never know. Tea?
Doesn’t hurt to get some practice every now and then
...you never know. Tea?
EMMALEE
Yes, please.
Yes, please.
Maia fills the empty cup and Emmalee happily sips it.
EMMALEE
Small pleasures...
Small pleasures...
MAIA
Small pleasures.
Small pleasures.
FADE TO BLACK.
